What Jesus wants

Welcome

Welcome to Ampt with Betty. Hope many of you had the opportunity to venture outdoors and enjoy the sunshine and God's creation. Please share your answers and activities via email or Ampt NBBC WhatsApp. If anyone has any prayer requests or concerns, please shoot me an email. (All requests will be dealt with confidentially).

Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus, we thank you for your love, strength and protection during the last few months of lockdown, and now as we study your word, please help us to understand and put into practice what you are about to teach us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Review

We learnt last week that we don't need to be "good" to come to Jesus, we can come to Him with all our faults and failings and still be forgiven when we have faith that Jesus is the powerful Son of God. Do you recall who came to Jesus in last week's bible story?

Being Thankful

Welcome

Welcome to Ampt with Ruth. I hope that you have enjoyed the school holidays and been able to enjoy lots of outdoors time.

Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus, we thank you for the holiday time and ask that you would help us to understand today's Bible passage and be able to put it into practice. In Jesus' name, amen.

Introduction

In Jesus' time, if someone visited your home, it was the custom for a slave to remove a guest's sandals, wash their feet in a bowl of water and dry them with a towel. This was becaues the weather was hot and people wore open sandals. The roads were dusty and so their feet would soon get dirty. Guests were also greeted with a kiss on each cheek.

Welcome to Ampt with Betty.

Let us pray:-

Dear Lord, thank you for being our guiding force and for your love and protection whatever we do

and wherever we go. Help us to remember what you teach us and guide us so that we can apply that

to our daily lives, and when we fail please forgive us and help us to get back on track.

Please help us to love you with all that we are and have and also to love others as ourselves.

        In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Bible reading  from John 12:1-8 NIV

Jesus Anointed at Bethany

12 Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honour. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 3 Then Mary took about a pint[a] of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5 “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.” 6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

7 “Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. 8 You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”

Memory Verse from Revelation 4:11 NIV

“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honour and power,
   for you created all things,

Please help us to love you with all that we are and have and also to love others as ourselves.

        In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Bible reading for today and also our memory verse comes from Matthew 22:35-40 ( NIV)

35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the

   greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and

with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is

like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these  two        commandments.”

"Family Holiday in Jerusalem for the Passover Festival"

Luke 2:41-52

passover.jpg

Welcome to AMPT with Ruth.

Let’s pray

Dear Lord Jesus, we thank you for our family and ask that you would help us to understand and learn from your example in the Bible passage today. Amen.

Introduction

In today’s Bible passage, Jesus was 12 years old when his family went on their annual holiday trip to Jerusalem from their home in Nazareth. They were going to celebrate the Passover festival. The trip was around 140 kilometers and could have taken 5 days to walk.  They travelled in a big group of friends and family. The Passover festival was a great time of feasting and new things to see and do. The Passover festival is still celebrated today and is a reminder that God, in a miraculous way, allowed the Israelite people to escape from slavery in Egypt.

Have you ever been lost, maybe in a shopping center or in a large crowd? I am sure that your parents would have been very, very upset, looking everywhere for you and asking others for help!  Jesus’ parents couldn’t find him and looked for him for 3 days!!!

Today’s Ampt lesson is about the power of Jesus to heal. People were amazed at what he did. But where did Jesus get this power and how is this important for us today?

  • Please look at the introductory video (Video 1) and then look at the Bible story video (Video 2).

  • On the text below underline the words in the Bible story that speak about the power of Jesus to

heal. In another colour underline the words that show how people reacted when they saw this.

  • Then have a go at the questions (Sheet 2).

  • You might like to do the puzzle (Sheet 3).

  • For a bit of extra fun, have a look at how a kid was able to use lemons to make a light bulb glow (Video 3)! How did he do that? What is so special about lemons?
